Jayapura, sound Mambesak - Pacific civil society groups urged the Pacific Islands Forum (Pacific Islands Forum / PIF) to send a fact-finding mission to West Papua, Indonesia, to investigate alleged human rights violations.
United Liberation Movement for West Papua (United Liberation Movement for West Papua / ULMWP) recently requested that a fact-finding mission of the main Forum island countries in the Pacific are sent to the (ground) Papua to investigate alleged human rights violations.
Radio New Zealand reported, perwakila civil society and non-governmental organizations from the Pacific have met in Port Moresby PNG -ibukota, before the forum Summit Leaders of Pacific countries to meet next week.
EMELE Duituturaga of the Pacific Islands Association of NGOs, or PIANGO, says there are two main issues of the group, that is, they want to be leaders in the forum to tackle climate change and West Papua.
Duituturaga said the group wants an international binding agreement on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, he also said it was time to look at the issue of West Papua.
"We have direct information on the atrocities of the West Papua human rights violations. Yes, we know that this is being questioned. This is also why we urge a fact-finding mission into the violations of human rights. It's quite urgent, "said EMELE Duituturaga, quoting Radio New Zealand, Friday (09/04/2015).
United Liberation Movement for West Papua was recently granted observer status at the sub-regional organization of the Pacific region, the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).
